Brook Green in the housing figures
In Brook Green, most of what is standing went up before 1919. Packers and shims do more of the work than the adhesive does on a room like this. The room decides the order of work.

This is family-house territory with wide plots, so kitchens are the big rear room after a side-return or full-width extension, running 4m plus with a 2.4-3m island and often a second sink in the island. Because the extensions are new build, the walls are square and level, which means single long pieces and mitred waterfall ends are actually achievable rather than aspirational.

The housing stock
Party wall settlement pulls the floor down at one side of the room, so a long run reads level at one end and not at the other. All of that is settled at the nesting stage, because a machined piece cannot be adjusted afterwards. Drainer grooves are machined flat, on a bed, never on site.
The lean-to roof drains into a valley gutter against the addition next door, and a long leak there shows at the head of the kitchen wall rather than on the ceiling. Pieces are sized to the tightest turn on the route before anything is nested to the slab. The bench proves it before the van moves.
The archetypes on this patch are large late Victorian family terrace, red-brick Edwardian house, mansion flat and Victorian villa converted to flats. They are not interchangeable, and a worktop finds the differences quickly.
Access. Quiet residential streets with CPZ permit bays and reasonable width, so a van can usually get within 20m, but almost every house has a front path with two or three steps and a tiled Victorian threshold you do not want to chip. Where an extension is still under construction the back garden route via a neighbour or a side gate is often open and is far better than the hall.
There is nothing to visit in Brook Green. Samples are posted free, the template is taken in your kitchen and the stone is fitted there too.

Sash windows sit in deep reveals with a working box behind the lining, so a run dying into one has to clear more than the plaster. Every piece is dry-assembled on the bench, since a second trip up that stair to correct a joint costs a day. What leaves the bench is what fits the room.
Get in while the extension is still a building site and take the stone through the open rear wall - once the bifolds are glazed you are back to fighting the hallway.
A carpeted hall runs a trolley badly, so a heavy piece is carried rather than rolled from the threshold in. Protection goes down first, and what gets protected is decided by the route rather than by habit. Every piece is staged to it before fitting starts.

Questions
Yes. A controlled parking zone means either a visitor permit sorted in advance or a suspended bay, and a suspension is applied for days ahead rather than on the morning. Where unloading has to happen in one go, the load order is planned so nothing has to come off twice. Handling counts are decided here, not on the pavement.
large late Victorian family terrace, red-brick Edwardian house, mansion flat and Victorian villa converted to flats. The bathroom upstairs sits directly over the kitchen, so its waste comes down in a boxed corner from floor to ceiling that no worktop is going to move. The galley run down a side-return usually measures longer than a slab will give us, so a join is designed in from the start and nested to land over a cabinet gable rather than wherever the material happens to run out. Every join over a gable, clear of every cut-out.
The hall is the only way in and out for whoever lives there, so it is cleared and then kept clear for as long as pieces are moving. The fitting day is planned backwards from that point, before anything comes off the van. The way in is walked with a tape before the van is opened.
Worktop fabrication and worktop installation, in that order. Where an annexe has been built or converted, its floor and its walls are newer than the main house and behave differently under the same run. Where the window is fixed there is no second day to fall back on, so the prep list matters more than usual. Book us when the units exist, not when they are ordered. Get in while the extension is still a building site and take the stone through the open rear wall - once the bifolds are glazed you are back to fighting the hallway.
Three stools along one side need more clear length than most plans allow, and once the seating depth is fixed the piece either grows or it loses a seat. The nest is laid out around that, with joins placed over cabinet gables and kept clear of every cut-out. The corner is proven on the bench first. A window board sitting below finished worktop height leaves two choices, drop the top under it or notch the stone around it, and both cost more than a straight run. On the day it means dry-laying, marking, and cutting the scribe on site before anything is bonded. Level is checked across the room, not along one wall. Supply only, material begins at £110 per square metre, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on separate lines rather than as one number.
The decision usually gets made standing in the room rather than at a desk, which is why a slab is worth viewing whole instead of choosing from a sample card. A half-day of access is not a fitting day, and it is better to say so at booking than to find out at eleven. One visit where permission only stretches to one. Describe the building when you book and the lift, the stair turn and any freeholder notice get built into the schedule rather than met on the day.
Delivery to the workshop has to be arranged and dated, since nothing is nested until it is there. If your own slab breaks there is no matching replacement to hand, and that is the real difference. Extended households run kitchens hard, and that pushes the specification towards granite or sintered stone rather than a light quartz. One visit, with the sink and hob seated and sealed before we leave. Handover day is a hard stop.
There is nothing to pay before the template visit. The same firm templates and fits. Nobody else is brought in to install. The design and quotation visit comes first. It is free and carries no obligation. Gas, waste and later wiring were boxed in against the wall long after the house was built, and that boxing is what the run has to clear. The workshop works to the template drawing and to the measured route, in that order. The offcut is planned before the main piece is cut.
Packing takes up small variation. It is not there to hide something that belongs in the units. An island is where this usually shows, standing free with no wall to level against. The check comes before the measuring rather than after, because the whole drawing is set out from that plane. A cill projecting forward of the plaster line pushes the back edge out, and the units then stand off the wall by that amount for the whole length. Rushing that is what leaves a gap you look at every morning for fifteen years. The notch is eased until it drops, then bonded.
A full-height piece shows a wall that is out more than an upstand does, over the extra height. Both are templated after the worktop is down and settled, because they are cut to the wall itself. Upstand or splashback, the stone is cut from the same slab run as the worktop, at the same time, so the batch actually matches. Many of these had a bathroom or a WC built onto the far end of the addition, so the room now ends at a stud wall rather than at the original brickwork. The other constraint is the hall: a piece has to come through the front door, round the newel at the foot of the stairs and through a doorway into the back kitchen, so we size the pieces to the tightest turn on that route before we nest anything, which sometimes means splitting a run that would otherwise have gone in whole. Nested to the route first and the slab second.
