Ask three neighbours what they paid for bathroom worktop fitting in Lower Clapton and you will get three answers, all of them correct for the kitchen they were quoting. Georgian terraces around the square with small original rooms and listed constraints, plus long Victorian terraces mostly in flats where the kitchen sits in the back addition at about 3m. Whole-house work is growing and tends to mean a rear extension with a peninsula rather than a full return. Plenty of kitchens do not match either description exactly, which is what the measured survey is there to sort out.
Injected damp courses and re-rendered lower walls leave the bottom metre standing proud of everything above it. None of it changes the material, but it does decide whether the top comes out of offcut stock or wants a slab bought for it alone. The stone is the simple half of a bathroom fit.
Kitchens in these flats are frequently in what was a bedroom or a return room, so the window is tall and its sill sits close to worktop height. The bathroom in one of these is usually a later addition over the back kitchen, so the walls are thinner, the floor moves and a vanity has to sit level in a room that is not. What the wall is made of decides how the unit is fixed.
Locally the mix runs to Georgian terrace, Victorian terrace, post-war estate and conversion flat. What the units are screwed to varies between them, and that decides the fixings.
