What bathroom worktop fitting actually involves in Monken Hadley depends on what you are fitting into, and around here that is not one thing. Listed and conservation-area houses facing the green, where kitchens are in original rear service rooms with thick solid walls, uneven floors and openings that cannot be enlarged. Work is sympathetic and joinery-led, with honed stone, shaped edges and short runs that scribe into stone or brick reveals. Nothing gets cut from a description. It gets cut from a template taken off the units once they are in.
Where the walls have been dry-lined over the old lath there is a void behind the board and no solid fixing until a batten is found. None of it changes the material, but it does decide whether the top comes out of offcut stock or wants a slab bought for it alone. Nothing about a vanity is standard except the depth of the unit.
There is no back addition on these, so the kitchen is the original rear room and the run is one wall long with a door at each end of it. Either way the walls are thin, the floor is boards over shallow joists and nothing meets at a right angle, so the vanity is scribed at both ends and the unit is fixed back to the wall as well as standing on the floor. A pod bathroom inside a shell has walls built last week.
The stock on this patch is Georgian and early Victorian listed houses, period cottages around the green and large Victorian villa. Which one you have changes the order of the day more than the design does.
