Is it right for you

What Calacatta Alba suits

Calacatta Alba is £280 per square metre supply only, which places it 43rd of 71 in our sintered stone range. The median sintered stone here is £261, so Calacatta Alba sits £19 above the middle of its own range.

Under a downlight the veining reads crisper than it does in flat daylight, and a gloss finish will throw the pattern back at you where a matt one keeps it quiet. The finish matters as much as the colour.

From the bottom of the sintered stone range Calacatta Alba is £170 up, and from the top it is £86 down. 8 other surfaces share the £280 rate: 3 quartz and 5 Karexa sintered stone. Calacatta Alba is 2nd by price among the 13 marble surfaces in this material.

12 other sintered stone surfaces share its marble tone, Natura at £311, Kira at £226 and Bergen at £360 among them. At a similar price you could have Imperial Gold Vein, a quartz at £280, which is a different material doing a different job for roughly the same money.

Pattern repeat is the thing to check before committing at this band. Printed surfaces repeat, which nobody notices on a galley run and some people notice across a wide island under good side light.

The photograph above is indicative. Screens shift colour, and batches vary, so a slab can read warmer or cooler than an image suggests. We hold offcuts of the Worktop Worx quartz collection only, so we cannot post you a piece of this one. It is ordered in by the slab, and the slab is what you would be shown before anything is cut.

If you choose it

What happens after you pick a colour

  1. A written quote

Send the sizes, a plan or a few photographs. A person prices it and itemises every piece, cut-out and edge.

  2. The template visit

Two to three hours for a typical kitchen. We digitally template every run, record wall run-out, unit heights and appliance positions, agree with you where the joins will fall and where the tap holes and drainer grooves go, and confirm the edge profile.

  3. Fitted in 5–10 working days

Calacatta Alba is cut to that template and fitted 5 to 10 working days from template, with a 5-year workmanship guarantee.

Before you commit

What you pay, and when you can still change your mind

Nothing to see the price

The survey and the written quote cost nothing and carry no deposit. Your written quote states when the deposit falls due, and the balance is due before installation. Every cut-out, edge and join is priced on its own line.

Cancel before the template

Up to the template visit you can cancel and we refund any deposit paid, less anything already spent reserving material. After it, the stone is cut to your kitchen and cannot be put back, which is why we template rather than work from your measurements. Read the terms

Something to show them

If someone else has to agree, the quote is itemised so it can be read line by line by whoever is checking it, and we can arrange to show you the actual slab before it is cut. What the guarantees cover

Questions

Calacatta Alba worktop questions

01

How much is a Calacatta Alba sintered stone worktop?

£280 per square metre, supply only. At that rate the slab for a 2.82 m² L-shape comes to about £790 before fabrication and fitting, which are quoted itemised. That puts Calacatta Alba 43rd of the 71 sintered stone surfaces we fit, counting up from the cheapest, against a sintered stone median of £261.

02

Does Calacatta Alba need sealing?

No, Calacatta Alba never needs sealing. Sintered stone has effectively zero porosity, so there is nothing to reapply.

03

Can I put a hot pan on Calacatta Alba?

Yes. There is no resin in sintered stone, so nothing in it can scorch and a hot pan straight off the hob does it no harm.

04

Can I get a sample of Calacatta Alba?

We post samples of the Worktop Worx quartz collection only, so there is no posted sample of Calacatta Alba; ask when you request a quote and we will tell you how to see the stone.

05

How long does Calacatta Alba take to fit?

5–10 working days from template. We template once your base units are fitted and level, cut Calacatta Alba to that template and fit it, with a 5-year workmanship guarantee and a 25-year material warranty.

06

Who makes Calacatta Alba, and is it a Cosentino stone?

Calacatta Alba is part of Karexa, our own range of sintered stone; it is not a Cosentino product. Cosentino sells its sintered stone under its own name, and the two are the same kind of material: mineral powders compacted under very high pressure and fired, with no resin in them.

Sintered stone

Why you would choose sintered stone

Sintered stone is the most durable of the three: highly scratch and heat resistant, and thin enough to take a fine mitred edge.

The standard thicknesses are 20mm and 30mm. Where you want a chunkier look, we mitre the edge (a 20mm slab folded down to give a 40mm or 60mm apron), which reads as solid stone without the weight or cost of a genuinely thick slab.
