The single biggest variable in what bathroom worktop fitting costs in Addiscombe is not the material you pick but the room you are asking it to fit. One of the most consistent patterns in the borough: Edwardian terraces with a side return that gets infilled, producing a kitchen roughly 5m by 3.5m with a long run against the flank wall, a 2m island and glazing overhead. Utility space is usually a cupboard rather than a room. Old kitchens rarely announce what they are. That is why somebody comes out and looks before a price is written.
The back addition is frequently a single skin of brick rendered on both faces, which takes a fixing badly and moves with the weather. For a vanity the length is rarely the argument, because it is the depth and what has to be drilled through it that set the piece. The bridge of stone behind the basin is the part that matters.
The rear door swings inward across the end of the run, so the last few hundred millimetres of worktop are only reachable with the door shut. Where a bedroom has been divided to make a bathroom the window sits off centre to the new room and the vanity ends up under it, which puts the window board in the order rather than outside it. What the wall is made of decides how the unit is fixed.
The kinds of building we work in here are Edwardian bay-fronted terrace, Victorian terrace, 1930s semi and small modern block. The template reads them differently even where the layout looks identical.
