You can plan bathroom worktop fitting in Beddington from a floor plan, but the plan and the room have a habit of disagreeing once the tape comes out. Inter-war housing around Beddington Park, with the larger detached houses on the park side taking full island kitchens and the semis behind running to an L-shaped kitchen-diner after a modest rear extension. Utility rooms are common where there is a side return to build over. If your kitchen is a bit of both, that is common enough and it changes nothing about how we go about it.
Internal walls are hollow clay block or stud rather than solid brick, so two points a metre apart on the same wall want two different fixings. What that does to a vanity is push the whole job into a narrow depth, because a bathroom takes the same stone as a kitchen in about two thirds of the width. Nothing about a vanity is standard except the depth of the unit.
Where the original steel windows survive at the rear, the frame sits almost flush with the inside face and there is no reveal to lose a joint in. The original bathroom here is the small room over the hall, and a vanity in it is short, shallow and hard against two walls, so both ends are scribed. Deep reveals turn a window board into a real piece of stone.
The housing on these streets is 1930s semi, 1930s detached near the park, post-war housing and modern infill. The run length that is easy in one is a join in another.
