What bathroom worktop fitting actually involves in Castle Green depends on what you are fitting into, and around here that is not one thing. Housing squeezed between the A13 and the Becontree layout, mostly inter-war and post-war family homes with small original kitchens, plus newer regeneration housing coming forward. The typical job is combining kitchen and dining room and running a continuous top across the old wall line so the space reads as one room. We measure the kitchen you have, not the kitchen the plans said you would have. Those two part company often.
The window over the sink sits at about worktop height, so the run is set out around the sill and the reveal rather than under them. Nobody looks at a bathroom surface until the sealant discolours, at which point nobody looks at anything else in the room. It is the smallest piece we cut and the most crowded.
These were built in short runs of six or eight houses, so the party walls are solid brick and the rear elevation is a straight line with no outriggers. The original bathroom in these houses is the small room over the hall, and a vanity in it is short, shallow and hard against a wall at each end, so both ends are scribed and there is no tolerance left between them. Where the floor is solid, the unit sits where it is put.
The mix here is 1930s Becontree-era house, post-war housing and regeneration new-build. That is why the same worktop costs differently two doors apart.
