No maintenance visit is built into the job. Soap, water, and on the porous stones a seal. Marble is the one people underestimate. It is porous, like granite, and wants sealing. Where a top takes wine, oil and lemon most days, the non-porous materials ask least of the household. Lime plaster over rubble moves in and out enough that a single long panel will show a gap somewhere along its length. What you get is a line rather than a step, because the pieces are levelled to each other first. A join sits over a cabinet gable. It never spans a gap and never runs through a cut-out. Butt-jointing over the gable puts the seam a few hundred millimetres back from the corner, below the eye line instead of straight across it.
