The housing stock
What we are usually working with in Petts Wood
The extension slab was poured to its own level, so there is a lip or a ramp where the new floor meets the original one. The fitting day is planned backwards from all of it, before the first piece comes off the van. Nothing is cut in the room if the shop could do it.
The estate is under an Article 4 style design control on the frontages, so the constraint is scheduling around the builder finishing the extension rather than the fit itself.
The extension is commonly a flat-roofed addition of the seventies or eighties with a shallower floor build-up, so the two halves of the room do not sit at one level. Where a return wraps into a recess, the piece is offered in dry, marked and eased rather than pushed. Settlement is packed out, never levered out.
On this patch the buildings are 1930s mock-Tudor semi, 1930s detached, 1950s infill and chalet bungalow. They fail in different places, which is why the survey looks at different things.
Access. Front drives on most houses and a side passage on the semis, but the side passages are narrow and often have a gas meter box or bin store in them, so slabs usually go in through the front.
There is nothing to visit in Petts Wood. Samples are posted free, the template is taken in your kitchen and the stone is fitted there too.
