The housing in Romford sets the vanity tops into a few recognisable patterns, and knowing which one you are in saves a great deal of argument later. The town centre is dominated by new and converted apartments where the kitchen is an open-plan run against one wall of the living space, usually 2.4-3m with an integrated hob and no island, so the developer's laminate can be replaced with quartz without touching the units. Around the ring road there are older terraces with small rear kitchens being opened into the dining room. Bring us the problem rather than the diagnosis. Working out what you have got is the first thing we do.
Ground floors fall away towards the garden across the whole footprint, so the units are packed up long before anything is measured for stone. A short piece carries an overflow, a waste and a sealant line, and any one of the three can spoil it. A vanity is where an expensive slab stops being expensive.
These were built late enough to have a damp course and proper footings, so the front of the house is close to true and the rear addition holding the kitchen is the part that has dropped. Where a bedroom has been divided to make a bathroom the window sits off centre to the new room and the vanity ends up under it, which puts the window board in the order rather than outside it. Loft en-suites lose their splash return to the slope.
On this patch the buildings are Victorian terrace, 1930s semi, 1960s block and 2010s-2020s town-centre apartment. They fail in different places, which is why the survey looks at different things.
