The housing stock
What we are usually working with in Silvertown
Everything arrives through one controlled entrance with a booking sheet, and a delivery that misses its slot waits. Almost everything that makes a fitting day hard is a property of the building rather than of the stone. One visit, our own installers.
The catch is that new blocks are gated with limited visitor access and single-lift cores, and some plots are only reachable via a long one-way loop round the dock.
The kitchen usually sits along the internal spine of the plan with the glazing at the far end, so the run itself has no window and no daylight on it. The lift is measured before the piece is loaded, and once inside the flat the fitting is quick by comparison. Nothing is screwed into plasterboard and hoped for.
The fabric of the place is 1990s Britannia Village housing, converted industrial building and recent dockside apartment block. Knowing which one it is before we arrive is half the survey done.
Access. Roads here are wide, industrial in character and largely unrestricted, so a large van can get right up to most buildings, which is unusual for the Docklands.
There is nothing to visit in Silvertown. Samples are posted free, the template is taken in your kitchen and the stone is fitted there too.
