The floor is often flags or brick laid straight on the ground, so it is solid, uneven and not going to be levelled by chasing into it. There is usually an island, and the island takes the liveliest part of the stone while the perimeter is allowed to stay quiet, which is a decision made at the slab rather than on paper. True walls and standard carcasses give the best yield there is.
