Rear access over a flat roof or up an external stair exists in some of these, and it is worth checking before the front stair is assumed. Stone up a wall is heavier than tile and bonded rather than hung, so the wall has to be sound. A flat over a shop is reached by a separate street door and a straight steep stair, and that stair is the whole access question. Windows sit low over the basin in these houses, and that window caps the height of any splash return before the rest of the room is even considered.
