Walls are solid brick with lime plaster and a hard skim over the top, and that skim comes away in sheets when old tiles are taken back. The joinery around it is deep and period, so a substantial thickness with a simple profile sits beside it far better than a slim modern edge does. Save on the colour before you save on the thickness.
