Whatever you have read about bathroom worktop fitting in Park Langley, the only version that matters is the one measured against the kitchen you are standing in. Large early-twentieth-century houses built as a garden suburb, with big rear kitchens that were originally servant space, so there is often a scullery, larder and back stair to absorb into one room. Finished kitchens run to a 3m island plus a separate utility and frequently a second prep sink. Old kitchens rarely announce what they are. That is why somebody comes out and looks before a price is written.
Ceilings are high enough that the wall units sit low against them, which leaves a tall band of wall above the worktop doing nothing. Nobody looks at a bathroom surface until the sealant discolours, at which point nobody looks at anything else in the room. One piece, four operations, and nowhere for any of them to move.
Floors are boards over joists with a solid floor only in the service rooms, and the two meet somewhere in the middle of the kitchen. These houses usually have en-suites as well, and the tops for all of them are worth cutting from one slab so the rooms relate across the floors. A separate WC becomes a cloakroom with a very small top.
What turns up behind the front walls here is Edwardian garden-suburb detached, 1920s arts and crafts house, 1930s detached and post-war infill. Each of those behaves differently once the old top comes off.
