One kitchen in Upper Norwood might take a single run along a back wall and the next an island as well, which is why bathroom worktop fitting is never quoted blind. Substantial villas on the hill with large but oddly shaped kitchens, often in a lower ground floor or rear return with a step down and a low window head. The Beulah Hill detached properties run to full island kitchens with utility and pantry; the conversions are small and constrained. None of that has to be decided before you get a price. It is what the survey is for.
Wide doors, generous rooms and somewhere to park mean the joins that go in are the ones we choose, not the ones the building forces. For a vanity the length is rarely the argument, because it is the depth and what has to be drilled through it that set the piece. Small enough to carry, awkward enough to plan.
The kitchen is generally a rear extension or a knocked-through pair of rooms, so part of the perimeter is old wall and part of it is new. A freestanding bath in the middle of the room pushes the vanity to a wall and often under a window, so the window board is drawn with the top rather than added later from a second offcut. A rear addition bathroom is cold, narrow and full of pipework.
On this patch the buildings are large Victorian villa, villa converted to flats, Beulah Hill detached and 1930s mansion flats. The differences between them show up at template, not at enquiry.
