We do not price vanity tops in Wealdstone without seeing the kitchen first, and the reason for that is in the rooms themselves. Small Victorian and interwar terraces with rear kitchens barely 2.2m wide, and a large body of new apartments built on the old Kodak and industrial land where kitchens are open-plan single walls with an integrated appliance stack. The terraces get replacement tops in the existing footprint; the new flats get upgrades from builder-grade laminate. Whichever it is, the process below is the same, and the figure you get after templating is fixed.
An under-stairs cupboard eats one end of most of these kitchens, and the run stops at a door that has to keep opening. The fittings come from four suppliers and arrive in no particular order, so the surface is drawn last and asked to reconcile all of them. Bathrooms take the same slab and roughly half the width.
There is no back addition on these, so the kitchen is the original rear room and the run is one wall long with a door at each end of it. Pipework in these houses runs on the surface and gets boxed in, and a top that has to notch round a boxing loses depth in the one direction it cannot spare. The bathroom in a house like this is rarely where it started.
The building types here are Victorian workers' terrace, 1930s terrace and recent flats on former industrial land. The one you have sets the piece length before the kitchen does.
