Before you settle on a material, it is worth understanding how bathroom worktop fitting in West Green is shaped by the room it has to go into. Family terraces around Downhills Park, a good number now extended at the back with a simple flat-roof addition rather than a full side return. That gives a rectangular kitchen with a 3.2m run and a table, or a small peninsula where the old back wall stood. You do not have to work out which of those you have. We will look at it with you when we come to West Green.
The side return was an outside toilet and a coal store before it was ever a kitchen, and the walls left over from that are half a brick thick. The stone is the straightforward half of a bathroom. The order the trades come in is what actually decides when we can be there. One visit, sitting between two plumbing visits.
Internal walls are lath on timber studs while the flank walls are brick, so two walls in the same kitchen take a fixing completely differently. Pipework in these houses runs on the surface and gets boxed in, and a top that has to notch round a boxing loses depth in the one direction it cannot spare. Concrete walls take a bracket well and a chase badly.
What we are cutting for, here, is Victorian terrace, Edwardian terrace and 1960s low-rise estate. None of them is harder than the others; they are awkward in different ways.
