The housing stock
What we are usually working with in Aldgate
Riser panels, wall boxes and the boiler cupboard sit in fixed positions the developer will not move for a worktop. The fitting day is planned backwards from all of it, before the first piece comes off the van. The awkward piece goes in before the easy ones.
The Aldgate gyratory and its approaches are red route with no stopping, so everything goes through a basement service yard with a height barrier or a booked bay at the building entrance. Tower blocks run full contractor control - induction, insurance, permit to work, booked goods lift and a lift protection kit fitted before the first piece moves. Straight swaps onto existing carcases still need the carcase levels checked, because developer units settle and a 3m top will rock on units that were only shimmed once.
Ceiling heights are held to the minimum the plan allows, so the panel between worktop and wall units is a short piece. Cam-lock carcasses are pulled up square and screwed together properly before stone is bonded across them. The age of the house sets the pace of it.
On this patch the buildings are modern residential tower, office to residential conversion, 1980s-90s apartment block and mixed-use development over retail. They were built to different tolerances, and the stone has to absorb that.
There is nothing to visit in Aldgate. Samples are posted free, the template is taken in your kitchen and the stone is fitted there too.
