Yes. Mostly big villas cut into flats, so the kitchen is often a converted reception or a rear half-landing room with a high ceiling and only one genuinely usable wall. Someone who expects to still be there in ten years asks different questions: how a honed finish marks, what a sealer does and does not do, and whether a chip by the sink can be repaired in place. Granite is porous to varying degrees, so it is sealed when we fit it and topped up over the life of the worktop. Quartz carries resin, so a hot pan wants a trivet, while granite and sintered stone will take one without complaint. Original walls are thick, lime-plastered and rarely straight, which makes dry-laying and scribing the bulk of the fitting day. The old island top is frequently sitting on units that were never fixed down, which is fine for laminate and not for stone. The building has kept moving; the new template catches up.

A full-height piece shows a wall that is out more than an upstand does, over the extra height. It is quoted by area like the worktop, so a long run is a material line rather than a trim. Both are templated after the worktop is down and settled, because they are cut to the wall itself. A range sitting in a chimney recess is common, and the flanking pieces are cut with the manufacturer clearance built into the template.
