Two things are worth settling first with bathroom worktop fitting in Fortune Green: what it will cost and what has to come out to make room for it. More whole houses than the streets nearer the station, so kitchens sit at the rear of the ground floor and are often already extended into a small rear infill giving an L of about 3.5m plus a return. Developer carcasses are thin cam-lock chipboard, which is entirely adequate under laminate and wants bracing before stone. For a vanity the length is rarely the argument, because it is the depth and what has to be drilled through it that set the piece. A vanity top is a small piece with a great deal drilled through it.
Services were designed in rather than added later, so waste and feeds come up where the drawing put them and the sink is not moving. Partition walls are plasterboard on studs, and a wall-hung vanity carrying stone wants timber behind the board rather than fixings into plasterboard alone. The soil stack decides the basin position more than taste does.
The housing here takes in Edwardian terrace, 1930s semi, purpose-built block and post-war infill. Each of those behaves differently once the old top comes off.
