Whatever you have read about bathroom worktop fitting in Forty Hill, the only version that matters is the one measured against the kitchen you are standing in. Conservation village around Forty Hall with a lot of listed and locally listed cottages. Kitchens are small, ceilings are low, and the look is unfitted: a freestanding table, a run of 2.4m under the window, and a butler sink. Islands almost never fit. You do not have to work out which of those you have. We will look at it with you when we come to Forty Hill.
Suspended timber floors flex underfoot, and anything that moves beneath a unit shows up later as a lipped join. A short piece carries an overflow, a waste and a sealant line, and any one of the three can spoil it. A bathroom is a short job that repays being drawn properly.
The staircase rises over the back room in a good number of these, so a sloping bulkhead sits over one end of the run and a piece cannot be stood on edge beneath it. Either way the walls are thin, the floor is boards over shallow joists and nothing meets at a right angle, so the vanity is scribed at both ends and the unit is fixed back to the wall as well as standing on the floor. Pressed steel baths and stone vanities are a common pairing.
The archetypes on this patch are Georgian cottage, listed brick house and Victorian estate cottage. What is behind the plaster is different in each, and it matters at fixing.
