The useful questions about vanity tops in Gascoigne are really questions about the kitchen itself, which is where any sensible answer has to start. A large regeneration area where older system-built blocks are being replaced by new flats and maisonettes, so the work splits between compact original flat kitchens getting a hard-wearing replacement top and newer units where owners upgrade the developer's finish. Kitchens are small and linear, one wall, sometimes with a short return, and no island anywhere. Send a few photographs of the run and we will tell you which of those you are dealing with before we come out to Gascoigne.
Internal partitions are dense block finished in a hard sand and cement plaster, which is unforgiving to drill and unforgiving to make good. What that does to a vanity is push the whole job into a narrow depth, because a bathroom takes the same stone as a kitchen in about two thirds of the width. The same stone as the kitchen, in a narrower cut.
A refuse chute or a service duct takes a corner of the kitchen in several of the standard plans, and neither of them moves. Dense concrete and blockwork hold a bracket firmly, so a wall-hung unit is secure, though nothing can be chased in to hide a pipe. A large bathroom is where a double vanity becomes possible.
The stock on this patch is 1960s tower block, 1960s low-rise flat and 2010s-2020s regeneration housing. Which one you have changes the order of the day more than the design does.
