If bathroom worktop fitting in Forestdale is on your list this year, the useful starting point is not the colour but the shape of the room. A single-period estate of link-detached and terraced houses with a distinctive layout: a narrow kitchen alongside the integral garage, usually a galley of 3m with a hatch or door through to the dining area. Owners frequently take the garage into the kitchen to gain width. You do not have to work out which of those you have. We will look at it with you when we come to Forestdale.
The carry is the constraint: a single stair with tight half-landings, or deck access with a long walk from the lift. A short piece carries an overflow, a waste and a sealant line, and any one of the three can spoil it. The same stone as the kitchen, in a narrower cut.
The window cill clears a worktop by very little, which settles how tall the upstand under it can be before anyone has drawn a thing. Bathrooms in these flats are compact and squarely built, and take a short vanity that comes out of almost any offcut. A separate WC becomes a cloakroom with a very small top.
What the kitchens here mostly sit in is 1960s-70s planned estate housing, link-detached house, flat-roofed terrace and integral-garage detached. They were built to different tolerances, and the stone has to absorb that.
