The kitchens in Temple are not all one kind, and which kind you have changes the vanity tops long before the stone is ordered. Residential sets within the Inns have small kitchens fitted into rooms that were never designed for them, typically a 1.8-2.6m run against a chimney breast or under a sash window, with wiring and plumbing surface-run in trunking. Everything is a careful retrofit rather than a design exercise, and stone is chosen for a hard-wearing surface in a heritage room rather than for a statement island. If you are not sure which of those describes your kitchen, that is normal, and it is exactly what the template visit settles.
Chimney breasts and the alcoves either side of them break the run into short pieces before anyone has drawn a kitchen. Bathrooms in buildings like this are reached up a flight and worked in a room two people can barely stand in, and the visit is planned around both. A bathroom top is drawn from the fitted unit, never from a plan.
Wider halls make the carry noticeably easier, and that alone can remove a join that a narrower terrace would have forced into the run. Either way the walls are thin, the floor is boards over shallow joists and nothing meets at a right angle, so the vanity is scribed at both ends and the unit is fixed back to the wall as well as standing on the floor. A bathroom carved out of a bedroom keeps the bedroom window.
What we are cutting for, here, is Inn of Court chambers building with residential sets, listed brick range around a court, postwar rebuild in period style and small flat within a legal building. Each of those puts the services somewhere else, and the cut-outs follow.
