Bedford Park kitchens
The kitchens we meet in Bedford Park
Customers looking at stone worktop supply and fitting in Bedford Park usually want to know two things first: what it will cost and what has to come out to make room for it. Kitchens sit in the original rear returns or half-basements, and the brief is almost always period-correct: hand-painted in-frame units, a slim 20mm profile rather than a chunky edge, honed or leathered granite, and a Belfast sink cut-out. You can leave that to us. What we need from you is a rough idea of the size and a date that suits.
Nothing in a house of this age is square, and the kitchen is usually the part that has been altered most often. Gloss level is the decision nobody notices making, because a mirror face under a row of downlights throws hard bright spots the length of the run. A finish is a decision about cleaning as much as about looks.
The rear extension is frequently original rather than added, which means it is solidly built and just as far out of square as the rest of the house. A matt or honed face suits a period room better than a mirror polish, and it is also the finish that hides the fine dust an old house produces all year round. Plain stone takes the seam that a long carry forces.
The stock we template in here is 1870s-1880s Queen Anne revival, Arts and Crafts detached and Edwardian infill. Which one you have changes the order of the day more than the design does.
True everywhere
Worktops, in short
- Supply is £110 to £550 per square metre across the 181 surfaces we fit.
- Granite comes out of the ground porous, which is why it gets sealed.
- Dekton and sintered stone hold their colour under heat and direct sunlight.
- That figure is the slab. Fabrication, edges, cut-outs and fitting are quoted separately.

The place
Why Bedford Park is its own job
We have carried enough stone into kitchens in Bedford Park to know what to allow for before the day arrives. Conservation area controls mean skips and scaffold need permits, frontages are gravel with hedges rather than hardstanding, and the side gates are too narrow for a slab. Most stone goes in through the front door and down the hall. Listed and locally listed fabric means you cannot chase the wall for an upstand, so scribing to 140-year-old lime plaster is the actual job. Have a look at the itemised quote and you can see what the building is costing and what the stone is costing.
The work
What worktops involves
The material carries a twenty five year guarantee and the fitting workmanship five years, and both are handed over in writing with the paperwork for the slab. The pieces are cut and polished at the works with radiused internal corners at every opening, so nothing is machined into a finished surface inside your house. You get an itemised figure that shows what the slab cost, what the edges cost and what the openings cost, so the layout can be adjusted before anything is cut.
Quartz is crushed stone bound in resin, so it arrives consistent and predictable, and that same resin is why it objects to a hot pan and to standing sunlight. Dekton and sintered stone cover £110 to £366 across 65 surfaces, so the hardest material available is also the one that opens the range. In a house of this age the kitchen stretches away from its only window, so the shortlist closes around a pale honed face before anybody names a colour. The slab is quoted; the cut list is what you pay.

The money
What it costs in Bedford Park
Two rooms of identical floor area can differ by more than double on the stone alone, and the reason is almost never the size of either of them. In a galley the runs are short and the cut-outs are close together, so the fixed operations carry more of the total than the stone does. Nothing about the £110 to £550 supply range changes once the template is done. What the template settles is the piece count and the operations, and that is where the figure firms up. A band of stone moves the total more than a metre of run does.

Victorian and Edwardian terraces
What Bedford Park asks for
The stock here does not generate much of this. What it generates is worktop installation and worktop splashbacks & upstands. The job itself is surveyed, quoted and fitted exactly as it would be anywhere else we work.
Victorian and Edwardian terraces
The carry, and what it rules out
Where the garden is level and the back door is wide the pieces get staged outside on trestles and brought in one at a time as the fitters are ready for them. Matching colour across a forced break is bench work rather than luck, so the two pieces either side of it are taken from adjoining areas of one slab. Weight per square metre belongs to the material, not to the length.
Victorian and Edwardian terraces
Bedford Park in the housing figures
On these streets the housing is dominated by nineteenth-century and Edwardian building. Where an aperture lands beside a boxing, the bridge left between them is thin, and a thin bridge is where knocks and hairlines concentrate. Ordering everything together is what keeps a colour consistent between properties.

Getting stone into a Bedford Park kitchen
Conservation area controls mean skips and scaffold need permits, frontages are gravel with hedges rather than hardstanding, and the side gates are too narrow for a slab. Most stone goes in through the front door and down the hall.
Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Questions we get asked in Bedford Park
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you cover Bedford Park?
Yes. Bedford Park is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are W4. It is worked on our west London run, along with the rest of Hounslow. A controlled parking zone means either a visitor permit sorted in advance or a suspended bay, and a suspension is applied for days ahead rather than on the morning. Whatever the standing allows, the stone leaves that van finished, because every edge, cut-out and internal radius is machined at the works and none of it is open to reconsideration at the kerb. Cutting is done wet and extracted, never dry on a pavement. We come to the kitchen to template and again to fit, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
What should I expect from worktops in a Bedford Park kitchen?
Wider halls make the carry noticeably easier, and that alone can remove a join that a narrower terrace would have forced into the run. The kitchen in one of these sits in the back addition and takes its daylight from one end, so the working half of the run is the darker half and a pale stone with a honed or matt face does more there than any colour with depth in it. Hard-working kitchens suit surfaces that ask for nothing. Plaster thickness varies over the height of a wall, so the line at worktop height is not the line at skirting level, and the units decide which one matters. Every notch and every scribe is machined into the piece before it leaves the works, and a hard sintered surface is the least forgiving of a tight internal corner, so one is always cut with a generous radius. Water standing daily is what makes porosity matter.
How would you get a worktop into a property in Bedford Park?
Grass and gravel will not take a loaded trolley, so a boarded track gets laid from the gate to the door before the first piece moves. That caps the longest piece, and a run split into two lengths nests differently on the slab, which moves the yield and moves the figure with it. A hard route shortens the list to lighter, thinner surfaces. Permit hours are what matters, not the permit itself, because a bay that frees up at six in the evening is no use for a template at ten. A granite kitchen ends its day with a sealer, and a sealer wants a dry face and a quiet hour afterwards, so that hour is written into the day rather than borrowed from it. Remnants become chopping boards, hearths and window boards.
Would you call Bedford Park a worktops area?
Not particularly, and it would be easy to pretend otherwise. What the research on this patch actually lists is worktop installation and worktop splashbacks & upstands. That is a point about the buildings round here, not about the job. The quoting, the cutting and the fitting are identical here to anywhere else we work. Rear and side-return extensions are where the islands appear, and an island is the piece that decides whether one slab does the kitchen or two. Where several kitchens are ordered together the sensible move is to take them all off one batch, because two slabs of the same name bought six months apart will not sit happily in the same building. The entry end of the range is real stone, not a compromise. A new extension slab is not automatically level, and that wants checking before templating rather than after the stone is cut. Volume work tends to live at the entry end of the range, and the entry end is genuine stone rather than a compromise, since the lowest supply figure we quote is a sintered surface and not a thin laminate pretending to be one. The island is usually what turns one slab into two.
What moves the number on a quote around here?
A tall bank of housings at one end takes a chunk out of the working run, so the usable length of that side is always less than the length of the wall behind it. A shape like that nests kindly on a slab, so more of what gets bought ends up on the units and the rate per square metre behaves much as the brochure says it will. Extra depth sounds free and frequently buys another slab. The material band is £110 to £550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What state does a Bedford Park kitchen have to be in before you template?
Two walls each a degree out give an internal corner two degrees out, and the whole of that error lands in the mitre. A hob dropped into the middle of a length puts sustained warmth at the lip of a cut-out, and an engineered surface will yellow there across ten years where a natural one takes it without comment. Brittle stone and narrow returns are a poor pairing. Send the run lengths, say where the sink and hob will sit, and tell us which way the room faces and what lighting is going in above the working run. Whoever manages the block controls the lift booking, the bin store and the visitor parking, and none of that sits in the gift of the household whose kitchen it is. That changes which questions are worth asking about the stone, because somebody staying put wants to know how a honed face marks in five years and somebody selling wants to know how it photographs next spring. Staying put and selling on ask different questions of a stone.
What if something breaks during the fit?
The workmanship guarantee runs 5 years on every kitchen we fit. A dropped pan years later is a different question, and stone is remade rather than filled either way. A piece is never laid flat across a gap while it is moved, because that is how stone cracks unaided. A step up to a patio or a raised threshold at the back door means the piece is lifted rather than rolled, and that is where the crew size gets decided. Where a seam becomes unavoidable the choice of stone starts to matter, because a fine even speckle closes a joint almost invisibly and a broad vein simply will not. Damage in transit lands on corners, so corners get eased.
Who decides where a join falls?
Join count is a question about slab size and run length, nothing else. There are only ever a few legal positions, and the one taken is furthest from the light. What you get is a line rather than a step, because the pieces are levelled to each other first. A full-depth tall unit projects past the worktop line, and the run has to be scribed against its side panel instead of carrying on past it. An island is the piece that decides whether one slab covers the kitchen or two, and a second slab arrives as a step in the figure rather than a gentle slope. Where the run beats the slab, the stone decides how the seam reads.
Can the sink be undermounted rather than sat on top?
The tap hole is drilled in the workshop too, and its position depends on how far the tap has to swing. If the sink or hob changes after the template, the drawing changes first and nothing is cut meanwhile. A Belfast or butler sink has to be installed and at its final height before the template, because the stone is cut to sit on it. Where the sink and the hob face each other across the aisle, everything carried between them crosses the walkway, and that is the one movement the shape cannot design out. A waterfall end is the most expensive detail per visible square metre in the trade, because the leg is a whole extra piece and the figure has to run down it uninterrupted. An overhang is stone and steel priced together, never stone alone.
Can you fit stone I have already bought for a Bedford Park kitchen?
If your own slab breaks there is no matching replacement to hand, and that is the real difference. Say what you have and where it came from before anything is booked, because thickness and batch decide what can be done with it. Delivery to the workshop has to be arranged and dated, since nothing is nested until it is there. The junction between the original room and the extension is the point to watch, because the two floors rarely sit at the same height. Adding an island is what moves most of these projects from one slab to two, and that jump is the single largest step in any worktop quotation. Where tenants change often, a surface with nothing to seal wins.
