Bathroom worktop fitting in Barking Riverside tends to go wrong in the planning rather than in the fitting, and planning it properly means starting from the building. Entirely new housing, so every kitchen is a developer-fitted open-plan run against one wall of a living space, generally 2.4-3.2m with an integrated hob and an undermounted or inset sink. The work is upgrading laminate to quartz within an untouched layout, plus adding a stone splashback behind the hob and, in the townhouses, a small island in the wider ground floors. Once the template is taken the figure stops moving. Everything before that is an estimate and is described as one.
The room is square, the walls are plumb and the floor is flat, so almost every complication in the job belongs to the building rather than the kitchen. Humidity is the difference nobody mentions, because a room that fills with steam twice a day treats sealant, grout and every joint in it far harder than a kitchen ever does. A bathroom top is drawn from the fitted unit, never from a plan.
The party walls are new and built to current sound standards, so they are thick, true and take a fixing well. Partition walls are plasterboard on studs, and a wall-hung vanity carrying stone wants timber behind the board rather than fixings into plasterboard alone. High ceilings do nothing for a vanity, but the reveals do.
What we find behind the front doors here is 2010s-2020s apartment block, modern townhouse and new-build terrace. They are not interchangeable, and a worktop finds the differences quickly.
