Breasts and alcoves break the run into short lengths, which is the condition where buying the slab whole makes more sense than buying the metres. Machined to the millimetre and guaranteed by the decade, not the year.

That changes which questions are worth asking about the stone, because somebody staying put wants to know how a honed face marks in five years and somebody selling wants to know how it photographs next spring. A let kitchen is specified for indifference, and rightly so.
What happens if a piece will not go up the stairs?
Where there is a lift, whether it can be booked out and padded matters as much as its size. A join added to get stone into the room is a different thing from a join added because the slab ran out, and the quote says which is which. If a piece cannot be got in at all, we say so at the template rather than on the day. A hall radiator or a coat hook at shoulder height takes a hundred millimetres off the usable width, and a hundred millimetres is often the entire margin. Where a seam becomes unavoidable the choice of stone starts to matter, because a fine even speckle closes a joint almost invisibly and a broad vein simply will not. A long granite length at full thickness is four hands, not two.

Where the hall runs straight through to the back the piece can be walked in flat, and it is only the two door frames that have to be cleared. Sintered stone at twelve millimetres weighs roughly half what thirty millimetre granite weighs, so a punishing route can genuinely rule one material in and another out. What will not travel whole is designed to break somewhere sensible.
The floor in my Old Oak and College Park kitchen slopes. Does that matter?
